2001 Fleer Game time #70
  • Carlos Delgado would be the Jays star on 5/3/01, hitting a pair of HRs in Oakland Stadium as the Jays lose to the A's 3-2.  Both of them were hit off of starter Tim Hudson.
  • The game would last 15 innings, with the Jays loading the bases with 2 outs in the top of the 15th only to have Jeff Frye strike out.
  • Both the Jays and Red Sox would lose on this day, remaining tied atop the AL East, with the Yankees just 1.5 games out.
  • Blowout of the day:  the Mariners beat the Red Sox 10-3 with former Jays first baseman John Olerud going 2 for 3 with 2 walks and a solo HR.  John would also steal one of his 3 bases for the season on this day.  The 3 SBs in 2001 would be a career high for John, equaling his total of '99 when he was with the Mets.
